A while back helped an online friend design a 3D-Printed electronics box  which controls the AccuRemote Digital Readouts of which I currently use on my Milling Machine.  Also works with the iGaging DigiMAG Digital Readouts.

ABOVE is a photo showing how my Milling Machine is currently setup to use the ‘wireless’ blu-DRO control box with the TouchDRO APP … BELOW is how my Milling Machine was setup prior to using the blu-DRO unit Al sent to me.

Al’s blu-DRO unit allows machinists to use an ‘Android’ OS Tablet as a Digital Readout Screen … and the bonus is … it is ALSO  Bluetooth Wireless!!

Originally I thought the tablet had to be connected to the electronics box with a cable; however, I was very excited to hear the tablet is a wireless connection.

I designed the tablet mounts and then printed all the parts in the only color I had at the time which was light blue PLA filament … Like Al’s dark blue color better.

This version of the box has Hex Countersinks in the back to allow hex nuts to lock into place … in addition, longer screws can be used with additional nuts to mount the box anywhere the user wishes on the Milling Machine and/or Lathe

Now that I know it is Wireless and can use the same Android Tablet as the DRO readout on both the Lathe and Milling Machine; I will be mounting the blu-DRO box onto the side of the milling machine, and then the tablet will be completely free of cords because the tablet can run off battery all day ~  I take it inside to recharge the tablet during the night.

I think the blu-DRO 3D-Printed electronics enclosure will be a great inexpensive option for those that do not wish to put together the electronics themselves.

UPDATE …

Since I now know the blu-DRO Electronics Box & TouchDRO App work wirelessly with Bluetooth ~ I remounted the blu-DRO box on the back-side of my Milling Machine to keep the cords out of the way.

The blu-DRO power unit’s cord was the perfect length to reach up to my Power Strip which I use to turn OFF the power to the Adjustable Workshop Lights when not using the Milling Machine.

So now when I want to use the mill ~ I pull off the dust cover and press the Power Strip ON and the blu-DRO will Power-Up automatically.

The tablet and TouchDRO App are completely wireless; therefore, I just have to slip the 3D-Printed tablet bracket onto the shaft mount … turn the hand screw to make sure it doesn’t get knocked off the shaft … and then turn the tablet ON … start the TouchDRO App … Press Connect and  the App connects via Bluetooth to the blu-DRO electronics box … and I am ready to machine items.

 When done ~ Turn OFF the tablet and pull it off the shaft mount so I can take it inside to charge up overnight … and press OFF on the Power Strip so everything is off & safe under the dust cover.

Setup worked, but I was about to the point of getting out the duct tape 😜
